Player Profile: Kaela Davis

Daughter of NBA veteran Antonio Davis and Godsister of Candace Parker you could say basketball runs deep in Kaela Davis; however, Kaela herself has made a name for herself in the world of women's basketball. Originally committed to play for Tennessee her freshmen year of high school, the whole world of women's basketball was stunned when she re-opened the recruiting process just five months after Pat Summitt was diagnosed with early onset dementia. Just days after de-committing from Tennessee this not only sparked huge criticism, but college coaches all over the country packed into gyms just to watch her play in hopes of recruiting her. Standing at 6'2 she is ranked No. 3 in the nation and is the top wing player in the country. She can attack the hoop with easy, and if she can't get to the rim then she will pull up with the mid range jumper. And if you don't think she won't shoot the three from deep, then you are seriously mistaken. This girl is unstoppable and simply relentless on the court, which is part of the reason why she is ranked No. 3 in the country.

When she made her visit to Georgia Tech at first she did not think it was going to be that great, but when she got to the campus everything changed. She loved the coaches and all of the teammates, the campus itself is only 30 miles from her house, and the best part of it is that Georgia Tech Women's Basketball team has been on the rise for quite sometime now. The Jackets have had six consecutive seasons with 20 or more wins along with six straight NCAA appearances. Last season they made it to the ACC conference championship game only to lose to Maryland (this being their second appearance) and made it all the way to the Sweet Sixteen last year only to lose to the Baylor Bears. These are huge milestones for the Georgia Tech program, and with Kaela coming now this will only help the program grow. Part of the reason why she chose Georgia Tech over Tennessee was that she felt that she could make her own name her, rather be another name in a long list at Tennessee. "I want to change the scene a little bit. I want little girls to say, 'its' my dream to go to Georgia Tech'," said Kaela Davis in an interview with FullCourtWBBall.

In high school she has played two varsity seasons at Buford High School. Her sophomore year she helped her team to a 28-3 record and won the 2A state championship in 2010-11. Her freshmen year she attended Norcross, with Diamond Deshields, and started in 30 out of 32 games averaging 15 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals per game. Norcross won the 2010 Georgia 5A state championship and finished the season with a 31-1 record. Over the summer she was on the 2012 USA Women's U17 World Championship Team and won the gold medal over Spain. The year before that she was member of the 2011 USA Basketball Women's U16 National Team and had a perfect 5-0 record. Overall, Kaela Davis has a special talent and where ever she goes she will be an immediate impact player. Whether if she was going to Tennessee or Georgia Tech the only thing that matters is that whether or not Kaela will be happy wherever she goes for the next four years. A lot of people are mad that she didn't go to Tennessee, but it's not about what others wants it's about what Kaela wants. Hopefully over the next four years we will see the Georgia Tech Women's Basketball Team go even further into the NCAA tournament and quite possibly win a National Championship. Until then we will just have to watch Kaela Davis do work her senior season and see what she does next on the court.
