Making A Name: The 'Lemmons' Way
(Submitted By: Malek Williams)
On a basketball team, there are all-stars and there are"role players", which make up the remaining parts of the team. Sometimes they are put in shadows and sometimes they are forgotten about, but it is the ones who work hard and stay persistent who make a name for themselves. Gonzaga College High School graduate(2010) and Niagara University guard Malcolm Lemmons is one of the best examples of a under-appreciated player, who "grabbed the bull by the horns" and stepped up to the challenge of not becoming just another number.
[Interview With Malcolm Lemmons: June 19th, 2012]
*Q = Question
*A= Answer

*ML = Malcolm Lemmons
Q: Were you nervous having to play with star guards Tyler Thornton and Cedrick Lindsay?
A: Playing with Ty and Ced was a good experience because I felt like it helped me step up my level of play every game and playing with such good competition I just felt like i had to raise my game in order to compete with them, so it was more of challenging experience rather than nervousness.
Q: What was your goal when you did not play varsity with your friends?
A: When i didn't make varisty sophmore year I just wanted to come out and play as hard as i could on JV to show the coach why I could have played varsity as a sophomore.
Q: What did you do to reach your goal?
A: I just worked hard everyday whether it was in practice or in any workouts and just let my game talk when it came time to play.
Q: What teams did you play on freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year?

A: Sometimes I felt I was overshawdowed or overlooked but it never really fazed me it just made me work harder.
Q: What were your feelings when the Robert Morris Coach Riced moved, was it tough or just another obsticle to overcome?
A: When Coach Rice took the job at Rutgers I didn't know what I was going to do in terms of where I would play the next year, but I never really worried about it too much I figured it would work itself out; because, I felt I have proved I could play college basketball and someone would give me a chance.
Q: Did the High School basketball experience shape who you are today?
I believe my high school basketball experience definitely shaped who i am. Playing in the most competitive high school league in the country definitely prepares you for the next level and instilled in me hard work and to always be ready to compete.
BM : Thanks for the interview Malcolm.
ML : No problem , Anytime
Now with this example, all athletes struggling with any issue with playing time or coming up through the ranks should have a 'Malcolm Lemmons attitude' and be humble and hungry to reach one goal and that is to make a name.
